“If you want to take nuclear energy seriously, you also have to take radioactive waste seriously,” said former State Secretary Jansen in 2024. “That means you don’t postpone decisions about how to deal with the final disposal of that waste for another 75 years, but start thinking about it now.”
That is exactly what we will do during this session, with speakers from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management and the Central Organisation for Radioactive Waste (COVRA). What is radioactive waste and how is it generated? Where is it stored in the Netherlands? How do we manage it over the long term? How will decisions about final disposal be made? How does a final disposal facility work? How will we deal with waste from new power plants? And, of course: how safe is it?
