New PI meeting

Prior to the strategic evening, the NWO Research Community Committee for Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES-RCC) organizes the first edition of the ‘New’ PI meeting. Whether you are a recently appointed academic staff member (max. ~5 years after appointment), including HBO lecturers, or you have just arrived from abroad in the Dutch academic landscape as a(n) (assistant/associate/full) professor or HBO lecturer within the last five years: This event intends to act as a platform for networking and building the next generation of Earth and Environmental scientists in the Netherlands and to familiarize new PIs with various aspects of the Dutch research landscape.

Theme: New Generation Earth & Environmental Scientists

The topic of this year’s New PI meeting is the kick off to setup a national “Early Career Network” for the new generation of Earth & Environmental scientists. Together with Maria Sovago from Stralia, who will give a workshop on leadership development in academics, we will explore your needs and opportunities for strategic networking among New PIs in the Earth and Environmental Sciences community for the coming years.

Programme

Wednesday 8 April 2026, 15:30-17:30 hrs
The event takes place on the eve of NAC 2026 at the NH Noordwijk Conference Centre Leeuwenhorst and is free of charge. After the New PI meeting, all participants can continue their evening at the strategic evening.

15:00-15.30: Walk-in with drinks & snacks
15:30-15.45: Opening and Welcome EES-RCC
15:45-16:55: Leadership workshop by Maria Sovago
16:55-17:25: Early career network session
17:25-17:30: Closing
