Host your own parallel session

The deadline for submitting parallel session proposals was 2 October 2026 and has now passed.

For the first time, NWO NAC offers researchers the opportunity to propose and host their own parallel session.

Do you feel that a research topic deserves more attention within the Earth and Environmental Sciences community? This is your opportunity to bring researchers together around a theme that matters to you and actively contribute to the scientific programme of NWO NAC 2027. If your proposal is selected, you will not only help shape the conference programme, but also chair and moderate the session yourself!

Why are we introducing this?

NWO NAC aims to bring together researchers from across the Earth and Environmental Sciences to exchange ideas, build connections and explore new collaborations.

With this new format, we want to create even more opportunities for the community itself to shape the conversations, collaborations and scientific exchange that define NWO NAC. By creating space for researcher-proposed sessions, we hope to:

  • Highlight emerging scientific topics;
  • Encourage interdisciplinary exchange;
  • Foster new collaborations both within and between Earth and Environmental Sciences;
  • Give researchers a more active role in shaping the conference programme.

What does a parallel session look like?

Each parallel session lasts one hour, consists of four presentations of 15 minutes and is chaired and moderated by the session proposer.

As session chair, you will introduce speakers, keep presentations on schedule, moderate the discussion and facilitate the Q&A session. You are also encouraged to promote your session within your own networks to attract relevant abstract submissions once the Call for Abstracts opens.

What should your proposal include?

Your submission should contain:

  • A session title;
  • One co-applicant (who can take over the session in case of unforeseen circumstances);
  • A description of the proposed session theme (max 150 words);
  • A brief motivation explaining why the topic is relevant for NWO NAC (max 150 words);

The NWO NAC Programme Committee will review all submissions and select the sessions that will become part of the conference programme.

Selection criteria

The Programme Committee will assess proposals based on criteria such as:

  • Scientific relevance;
  • Timeliness of the topic;
  • Potential interest for the NWO NAC community;
  • Added value to the conference programme.

Further details on the assessment procedure will be communicated when the call opens.

Conditions for applicants
